Unless you are from the Scranton area it is probably a half hour or so farther than some larger ski areas but in my opinion it was worth the extra drive for a nice change of pace. If you go all the way from the top to the bottom there is a pretty long run and respectable vertical drop, but it does take a hot minute to get back up all the way to the top if you do that. Now on the downside the lifts are truly by no means speedy but I think the lack of lines helps make up for it, and I don't think you really need to be in too big a hurry at Montage Mountain. There is a good layout of trails and a very nice variety, ranging from some nice and easy greens and blues, including some cool runs looping through the trees, to White Lightning, which I do believe them that it is legitimately one of the steepest slops in the east, as advertised. The vibe was very laid-back, unlike Blue Mountain and Camelback. College day was a interesting time with quite the entertaining crowd. You cannot beat the weekday prices, which even include rentals if you need them. In my opinion Montage compares very favorably with other PA ski areas. ![]() Being a little farther north than some other PA areas you also may have somewhat more favorable skiing weather. ![]() By the time the crowds show up, you'll be ready for a break. If you come, get your pass online, show up early and go straight to the bowl (that's where the blacks are). We get a lot of 'out of towners' on weekends. That and the proximity to the NY/NJ border. The only downside is the base elevation, it's low, so the weather is wormer here than at other places. They opened an entirely new outdoor food court complete with private tents for rent and firepits. Some of the best snow making I have ever seen and they really handled the whole COVID situation well. They do a great job taking care of the trails here. It had stiffened up overnight, but you just knew it was all fresh blown. This past weekend the weather was clear and cold, and the snow was awesome. They have 3 separate areas: green, blue and black. Most are on the shorter side, but there are 2 top to bottom runs that start off blue and end black: Raceway and Fast Track. This is my local (home) mountain and I love it here.
